The Apollo 11 mission was a success in large part because it was supported by everyone. Not just NASA, but congress and the American people. It was truly a national project. It taught us to work through our unknowns and have faith in our ability to learn and grow.
President John F. Kennedy told an audience at Rice University on September 12, 1962:
"We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because
they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to
organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge
is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one
which we intend to win, and the others, too."True accomplishments come from doing the hard thing and not
resting on the easy things. Raise your expectations. Don’t rob yourself of your
potential future. Strive to do the hard things.
